There has been more talk lately about the new football leagues that are starting up and how they will fair. The UFL is set to kick off in October and they aren’t the only ones. We will also be seeing an All American Football League and the USFL. Yes the USFL is making a comeback for those of you who remember them. First, let me say you cannot compare these to the NFL on any level in my opinion. The UFL named there coaches this week. The UFL will only have four teams – San Francisco (Dennis Green), Las Vegas (Jim Fassel), Orlando (Jim Haslett), and New York (Ted Cottrell). It’s only a six week season and who is to say this will even work. The argument is that they need to have connection with the fans.

These leagues really need to think big. What better way than to get down with a video game publisher. Instead of all the bitching we hear year in and year out about Madden this would open up the door for other companies who would love to touch on football. Not to mention this would be a fantastic advertising tool for that league. Not saying it will happen or could happen, but think of it, competition for EA, what better way to get the game most Madden fans want. As for these leagues actually making it though, I am realistic. NFL has this lock, stock, and barrel. You would think as popular as football is there would be more room for another league or maybe two. I have to say I would like the idea of something to watch during the NFL off-season. We can always imagine the possibilities though from a gamers aspect.
